CABINET LATCHES THAT REALLY HOLD

During an earthquake cabinet doors can open letting dishes and precious china fall onto the floor.  This can create a serious danger of cuts and injuries to residents.

An example is shown to the left of a kitchen after the California Northridge earthquake.

There are many types of latches that are available.  But I have only found a couple that are acceptable.  Magnetic latches aren't strong enough.  Childproof latches are often not convenient enough.  Velcro straps are ugly.

My favorite is the ball and socket spring loaded latch.  They are hidden when the cabinet door or drawer is shut.  And they are so easy to open.  Just give it a small push and it unlocks the latch.  And push it again when closing to lock.

These are just the ones that I have found helpful in my own personal preparation
